Andriopoulos) presented the event entitled: “A Passion Hymn for Dionysios Solomos” on Monday, 9 February, in the packed Teaching Hall of the Music Library of the Association “The Friends of Music,” at the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron Mousikis Athinon).
The event took place on World Greek Language Day, observed on 9 February, the memorial day of the great poet Dionysios Solomos. World Greek Language Day was established in 2017 by the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was ratified by UNESCO in 2025, with the aim of highlighting the timeless contribution of the Greek language to world civilisation.
The first part of the event included the following lectures:
Stella Naki, PhD in Philology, on the topic: “Dionysios Solomos and the Greek Language.”
Maria Bacha, visual artist, on the topic: “Small Electric Leaps – Solomos, Twombly, Sikelianos.”
Ioannis–Porfyrios Kapodistrias, MSc in Museology – Conservator of Antiquities and Works of Art, on the topic: “WHY SOLOMOS? The Figure of the National Poet as a Timeless Artistic Motif.”
Panagiotis Ant. Andriopoulos, theologian and musician, on the topic: “The Dionysios Solomos of Manolis K. Chatzigiakoumis.”
In the second part, settings of Dionysios Solomos’ poetry were presented by the Greek composers Theodoros Spathis, Georgios Kazasoglou, Dimitris Minakakis, Giorgos Kouroupos, Giannis Stavrakakis, and Elena Pavlea.
At the event, the work OR CHE RIDE LA TERRA E IL MARE E IL CIELO by the composer Dimitris Minakakis, based on one of the five Italian sonnets of Dionysios Solomos for voice and piano, received its world premiere. The piece was written specifically for this occasion.
Among those present were the composers Dimitris Minakakis and Elena Pavlea, whose works were performed, the well-known author Athina Kakouri, the musicologist and critic Thomas Tambakos, a group of high school students from the “Apostolos Pavlos” Educational Institutions of Corinth, and a large audience.
